Shakespeare Vs Shakespeare ON AIR

Shakespeare Vs Shakespeare ON AIR
Part of WORDSANDSOUNDS Residency – Piccolo Teatro di Milano
7 – 31 January 2015

Two actors, a radio speaker and a technician get stuck in a Scottish radio station, while running a radio program on Shakespeare, because of a terrible disaster that has affected the whole world and possibly destroyed the entire population.
They don’t know if there are any survivors…
They don’t have any contact with the external world…
They don’t know how the future will be…
They can only wait…
They decide to keep running the program and playing Shakespeare, hoping that someone is listening to them. In this surreal situation, full of tragic, yet surprisingly comical moments, the characters reveal the best and the worst of their personalities, relying on Shakespeare to draw the attention of those that might be listening to them.
The disaster (we don’t know if it’s a plague, a war or so) is actually a metaphor for our own disintegration, which we have caused by ignoring our responsibilities. So, could possibly Shakespeare be the right cure for this lack of emotions and lead us to the discovery of true feelings and human relations?
By listening to the extracts from Julius Caesar, Measure for Measure, As You Like It, Hamlet, The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet, we will understand how Shakespeare was capable of dealing with all the deepest feelings and human fears and how his verses on life, death, hope and love are still valid nowadays.
