MY VISION FOR CHARIOTEER THEATRE ACTING SCHOOL

By Laura Pasetti, Artistic Director

I would like to create the space for actors to experiment with their talent without the pressure of production.

For this reason, the realisation of an acting school that could allow the acting process to be explored and recognized has become an essential part of our aims. We would like this school to be accessable to every talented person in the world who is committed to train as a professional actor; no age limitation as talent doesn’t know this limit.

Anatoli Vassiliev once told me that an actor is an alchemist that transforms written word into living truth.

I would like to train those actors that want to serve Theatre and Art and want to dedicate their talent to this end. Training will be for 7 hours a day in all the aspects of performing arts and students will spend 1 or 2 years at the school receiving tuition from the most experienced teachers and artists that we can find or form.

In the last few decades, in my opinions actors have lost touch with the meaning of their profession. I would like to remind actors of their purpose on stage, create actors with ethical principles, being respectful of each other; competitive with respect, focused on the training as their main resource. Actors need to take responsibility for the quality of their work and aim to offer audiences inspiration and food for thought, not only entertainment. Theatre can be entertaining but the aim is for audience and players to go home with the soul nourished and enriched.

For these reasons actors will need to find the discipline to go beyond their ego, to receive and pass on something bigger than their own personal story. In this way somehow like monks’Ķ Actors must re-create a theatrical sense that has been lost. It won’t be easy at the beginning; people want entertainment.

At the school students will have also to study martial arts and tai chi, and a variety of spiritual philosophies. The school will create productions. I want us to perform: to awake consciousness we need to speak to audience. I don’t want to create an isolated sect, just talking its own language to each other. I want to create a group that can develop, from this method, their own way, who go back to their own countries, their own theatre group seeking to develop more and maybe one day come back as teachers!

Being on stage with this intention is channelling, it is a prayer beyond ego, connecting with higher self and reaching a higher level of thinking and being. It could be a drop in the ocean, but a potent one.
