Participants will also explore:

Movement in the space: ways of walking, changing rhythms, turning, exploring different intentions. Specific walks including the "walk on the spot".

Counter weight and Illusion:

  • To push and pull: sawing, ironing, hammering…etc.
  • To throw diverse objects and materials.
  • To lift up and transport different objects.

Improvisation: starting from a theme, students will improvise without words. Themes will be both abstract and realistic.

Each lesson will start with a warm up, focusing on joints, muscles and tendons and using a few elements from classical ballet.
Please note that places are limited so early booking is essential.
The course requires a considerable amount of physical activity and therefore appropriate clothing should be worn.
Please bring a mat for floor work. Camping or exercise mats would be adequate.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Born in Paris, Marise attended the School for Dramatic Arts E.P.J.D. (Education Pour le Jeu Dramatique).
In 1949 she joined the group of Etienne Decroux - the world famous mime and actor, master of Barrault and Marceau - and worked with him in numerous shows both in France and in other countries.
Since 1953, initially as Decroux's assistant and later on her own, she has been teaching Mime at the "Piccolo Teatro of Milan" Acting School and at the "National Academy of Dramatic Art" in Rome. She has also worked for "Le Theatre du Soleil" directed by Ariane Mnouchkine in France and for other European theatres.
As a choreographer she has worked with prestigious theatre directors, putting on stage many masterpieces by Brecht, Shakespeare, Pirandello, Goethe, Aeschylus and Euripides.
For the Opera she designed the choreography for Falstaff (Verdi), Woyzeck (Berg); Don Giovanni and Così Fan Tutte (Mozart) at the prestigious theatre "Alla Scala" in Milan; also for The Magic Flute (Mozart) at Salzburg.
Marise Flach has taught the art of Mime and Body Expression to hundreds of performers and theatre directors across the world. She can be considered one of the greatest teachers of this genre.
