'Advanced Acting Course' -
Master Class for Body and Voice led by Ilya Kozin
ABOUT THE COURSE
Elements of Study: These will include a variety of physical and vocal techniques that will further develop an actor's skills and abilities to characterise and authentically present the text of the playwright effectively. This will be achieved through specific exercises, movements and improvisations which will improve the actor's physicality on stage and vocal capabilities. The ability of the actor to sustain the energy and rhythm required for performance through stamina, strength and concentration will also be a focus of this laboratory
Teacher: It will be led by Ilya Kozin, who was a student of the Russian master Anatoli Vassiliev. Ilya is an actor, teacher and a martial artist, working with actors and students alike in Russia and in Western Europe
Particular attention is paid to the development of each individual. Starting from the technique, this work develops the skills to improvise and compose beyond ordinary gestures to powerful images and symbols. This is the great quality of contemporary dance: take the Ordinary and transform it into the Extraordinary.
This course requires no particular background, although it is preferable for the students to have some experience in dance movement.

For me, the actor must be at once the “object” of the text and at the same time a being endowed with fantasy, freedom, creativity. The actor is an instrument that plays by itself the music that is to be played, an instrument which has its own character, has its own personality. For ultimately, the terrible difficulty of being an actor is that you have to become an instrument that plays itself but follow the notes set down from another. For me this work must always be an act of love. Without love, without sharing in this work together, the theatre doesn’t exist. - Giorgio Strehler
